Workshop notes -- Introduction to the SCC

Three commands do almost all of the navigating:

  pwd   print the full path to the directory you are currently in
  cd    change to a different directory; takes a path as its input
  ls    list the contents of a directory; lists the current one if given no path

A path describes how to walk down the tree from the root ("/") to wherever you
are going, for example:

  /projectnb/ne742/students/kylekurk

Useful shorthands:

  .     the directory you are in right now
  ..    the directory one level up
  ~     your home directory
